Mo Steel/ Team USA Goodwill Tour of Japan

Bringing Two Cultures Together

Mo Steel Travel traveled to Japan March 28th to April 10, 2007 for a goodwill tour. Flag Football was the vehicle that brought youth together from these two great countries.

Daily Journal by David Fried (in emails sent from Japan)

Hello Everyone-

We are here! It is Friday morning here, I just woke up and the kids will be up in 10 minutes. Everyone met up last night after a long journey. Everyone was great. We made the best out of a long trip and of course we had fun doing it. We are on the other end of the world. WOW!

We met up with Keiko, JR and the rest of the Japan Flag Football staff. They are incredible.. both nice and informative and most importantly our translators. We had a fun dinner at a restaurant near the hotel called "Jonathans". The kids crashed right after dinner last night. Its cold this morning. We are off for a great day of sightseeing. I will email before I go to bed with today's update. Also, I will post some video with Gary H. You will be able to check it out on our web site at www.mosteelfootball.com.

We are having a great time already.. laughing alot.. Bye.

 Regards,

 David

Letter from Hiroshima Peace Museum

From the players and chaperones...

No better way to interact with the Japanese kids and get to know them better than on the football field, and this trip was the best way to do it. Traveling from North to South we were able to see most of the country, see the sights and most importantly mesh with the Japanese kids in many different areas. Having JR, Keiko and Judge Ito with us, made it all the better. The experience was most definitely an unforgettable; un…believable one! Thanks to all who were there to share it!

The Japan trip was an amazing experience. My favorite part of the trip was playing football with Japanese kids and teaching them the game of flag football. My favorite sight seeing place was going to Hiroshima because it brought back reality to the trip and it was extremely interesting learning about the A Bomb. However, what i enjoyed most was sharing the experience with my team and friends. It was an experience which will never be forgotten.

This trip was indescribable. There are not any words that come to mind about this trip. This trip changed my life because I never thought I would ever be invited to play and teach football to Japanese Kids. I made a couple few friends on this trip. my best friend I made in this trip was Jumpei. He was the easiest person to talk to on the trip of the other kids. Jumpei Lived in Oregon and then moved back to Japan. I didn’t really have a favorite part of the trip. The whole trip was amazing. If I had to think of 1 or 2 words to describe this trip the word would be Life Changing.

Thank you very much fried for letting me go on this trip

Dear Fried,

As you lived  and saw during the last few weeks, dreams do come true!!!

Who would have thought our kids would accomplish so much in such little
time, two weeks went by and as the days went by, when we thought it was a
perfect day, the day after was even better.

See our kids, showing a high degree of discipline and respect on and off the
field, tells me that the four years my kids ,(Bryan and Michael) spend with
you and the team they have learn a lot, they have learn that football is not
only a game  is an instrument of peace ,is a language, is “lets have a great
time “and much more .

Being part of a travel team is a way of life,  to see how much they love
their team mates and how much they respect their friends and opponents shows
me that you did for them more then being a football couch.

You show them by example that they can accomplish whatever dream they will
have, with determination , perseverance, and will  they can reach  further
then they even can dream.

For all those mention above  I thank you. Thank you for let me be part of
your dream ,but more thank you for let me see my kids growing into great
athletes, great team mates, and awesome human beings.

As far Mitch, I doubt anyone can ever find the appropriate words to really
thank him , for the amount of work and dedication to the program, to our
kids, to the JCC and to the community.

Bryan had learn a lot from Mitch in these past years and I think he could
not have found a better  person to learn from.

Hope we will have more dreams to dream and more dreams to see come true!!!

Gus

As a parent, the Japan trip provided a daily testimony of how our kids can proudly wear many hats.  They were extraordinary in conveying the Mo Steel, JCC, NFL, Jewish Community and the United States of America messages of goodwill.
As Mo Steel, they are a remarkable family.  As JCC members they are endowed athletes.  As  NFL ambassadors they are Flag Football National Champs.  As Americans they are Team USA.  As part of the Jewish community they are  engaged Jews.  At the end of the day, this trip reaffirmed that our children are true citizens of the world.
Thank you David for the time to reflect and many, many thanks for believing in our boys and giving them the opportunity to fly high.

This trip was simply amazing. There are not many people who in their entire lifetimes get to experience what us 37 people did the past 13 days. From the traveling throughout Japan to the satisfaction we got from the smiles on the Japanese children's faces, this trip was unbelievable. Helping kids and spreading the game of flag football on the same trip, well you couldn’t ask for much better than that.

 Andrew Brodsky

How amazing to have been part of a perfect plan.

How gratifying to watch my son and your sons share cultures and spread goodwill.

How awesome to have new friends around the world who share the same values.

How thankful I am to have shared this journey with you all.

Susan Fried

What can I say about our trip to Japan. It was an experience I will never forget. We were able to learn many things from the Japanese culture and people and also be able to play football with teams from all around the country. This trip showed me how the other side of the world is and how kids around the world are, but in conclusion this was a trip that will always be in my heart and in my memory.

Gavin

The trip to Japan was amazing. I had the greatest experience ever. I learned a lot about Japan and its culture. I also learned about Japan’s history. The trip to Japan changed my life. I am so thankful that I got the chance to participate in this incredible experience.

This experience was something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. To play football in Japan and be able to interact with kids from another culture is amazing. I was able to experience and learn about the Japanese.  I am fortunate to play on the best flag football team in the USA and to be able to represent my country.  . To share  with all of my friends on this trip was also a reason this trip was AMAZING.

From Brett

While the people, the chemistry, and all the interactions, made every moment of the trip unforgettable, the most important lesson that I learned from the trip, was that if you have a dream, a passion and reluctantly work at it and nurture it, more likely than not, it will become a reality.

Paul Rush's Dream to bring football to Japan, teaches us this lesson.

Thank You David, Mitch, Steve, JR And of Course Masatoshi Sun for the hours of preparation, and planning, which ultimately resulted in an experience which I am sure  has altered the paths of many of our lives.

 Gary Heldenmuth.

For me this trip was amazing. it was awesome to see how these guys were able to change so many lives just by doing what they love to do and teaching the game they love to play to others. It was also cool for me to see from a different view of behind the camera the expressions and appreciation coming from the faces of the Japanese kids and i thought that was something amazing.
